Express Media announces Hologram winners

Express Media has announced the winners of its Hologram book-publishing initiative for young writers.

The successful novellas are No Limit by Holly Childs and The Loud Earth by Elisabeth Murray. Both writers received $1000 and will have their books published by Hologram and distributed by Hardie Grant. No Limit is due out in April and The Loud Earth in May.

Hologram editor Johannes Jakob said of the winning writers: ‘These aren’t just authors to watch out for in the future, they’re two writers already producing ambitious, original work that made us super excited. We don’t want to wait around to make a big deal out of how good they are—we want to bring their stories to readers right now.’

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Express Media launched the Hologram initiative in 2013 as a ‘step between a young writer appearing in journals and publishing a full-length manuscript’, and to make ‘a place for writing that’s too long, too short or too weird to go elsewhere’. The project was open to debut Australian writers under 30 and was funded by the Australia Council for the Arts’ Early Career Residencies program.
