Australian publishers nominated for Bologna Prize for children’s publishing

Allen & Unwin, Berbay Publishing, Hinkler Books and Walker Books have been nominated in the Oceania category of this year’s Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publisher of the Year.

This is the second time that Allen & Unwin has been nominated for the BOP Bologna Prize, which was established in 2013 by the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and the Italian Publishers Association to mark the 50th anniversary of the book fair and to ‘pay tribute to excellence in the world of children’s publishing’. Australian publishers Koala Books and The Five Mile Press were also nominated for the prize last year, with New Zealand publisher Gecko Press winning the Oceania category.

Finalists have also been named in five other geographical regions: Asia, Africa, Central-South America, Europe and North America. A full list of the publishers nominated in each of the regions is available here.

The finalists for each region have been nominated by international publishers associations and cultural institutions that represent book publishers, as well as individual publishers. Publishers participating in this year’s fair now have until 16 March to vote for the winners in each region.

The winners will be announced on 24 March at the start of this year’s Bologna Children’s Book Fair. The fair will run until 27 March. For more information, visit the website here.
