‘The BFG’ to be adapted to film by Spielberg

Roald Dahl’s children’s book The BFG (various imprints) will be adapted into a live-action film directed by Steven Spielberg, reports Variety. Spielberg plans to begin production in early 2015 and the film is due for release in 2016. The screenplay will be written by Melissa Mathison, who worked with Spielberg on the film E.T. ‘The BFG has enchanted families and their children for more than three decades. We are honoured that the Roald Dahl estate has entrusted us with this classic story,’ said Spielberg in a statement. The BFG was first published in 1982 and an animated film adaptation was released in 1989. DreamWorks Studios acquired the film rights in 2010.
