Kent and Cleave among nominees for Barry Awards

Australian author Hannah Kent and New Zealand author Paul Cleave are among the writers nominated for this year’s Barry Awards for crime writing.

Awarded annually by the editors of US crime writing quarterly Deadly Pleasures, the awards recognise books in the categories of ‘best novel’, ‘best first novel’, ‘best paperback original’ and ‘best thriller’.

Kent has been nominated in the ‘best first novel’ category for Burial Rites (Picador), while Cleave is nominated for ‘best paperback original’ for Joe Victim (Penguin Books NZ).

The awards are announced on 13 November in the US.
