Byron Bay Writers’ Festival launches 2014 program

The Byron Bay Writers’ Festival has launched its 2014 program.

Joining international guest Jeanette Winterson, who was previously announced as the festival’s keynote speaker, are Geoff Dyer, Susie Orbach, David Finkel (Thank You for Your Service, Scribe) and Poe Ballantine (Love and Terror on the Howling Plains of Nowhere, Transit Lounge).

Among the local authors participating in the festival are Clare Wright, M L Stedman, Carrie Tiffany, Emily Perkins, Alex Miller, Frank Moorhouse, Malcolm Fraser, Tara Moss, Sophie Cunningham, David Marr and Tony Birch.

Some of the highlights of this year’s program are Bob Brown and Tim Flannery ‘exploring an environmental vision for Australia’; ‘robust debate’ with ‘Julian Burnside, Antony Loewenstein, Joanne McCarthy and Kate McClymont’; John Safran’s live show Murder in Mississippi; and literary cabaret with Andrew Denton, Missy Higgins and Benjamin Law.

Appearing at the Kids Big Day Out on Sunday are Mem Fox, Andy Griffiths, Sally Rippin, Asphyxia, Martin Chatterton, Nick Earls and ‘Byron Shire locals’ Jesse Blackadder and Tristan Bancks.
