Open Pitches website to match topics to writers

A new website has launched to help editors find writers for particular topics.

The Open Pitches Tumblr was created following a conversation on Twitter involving Zora Sanders, editor of Meanjin, and Simon Collinson, online editor of the Lifted Brow, on the difficulty of matching certain topics with writers. Sanders told Books+Publishing: ‘I have been thinking for a while about the fact that editors often have dearly-held essay ideas but don’t have the right writer for them.’

The Tumblr, which was created by Collinson, allows editors and publishers to submit ‘openings’ and writers to submit ‘pitches’. Both the Lifted Brow and Meanjin have posted openings, and Meanjin’s first opening has already been filled.

‘I want it to be open to every publication or writer who could use it, although I think this particular scenario is quite common for literary magazines, so I expect that’ll be the focus at first,’ said Collinson.
