Australian rural fiction authors launch promotional website

A group of authors has launched a website to promote Australian rural fiction.

The website, An Australian Rural Romance, ‘showcases the genre’s emerging, established and award-winning authors published by Australian publishers’, organisers said in a statement.

Described as a ‘one-stop-shop website for lovers of the fastest-growing and still bestselling genre’, the website contains information on current and forthcoming titles, with links to authors’ websites. It also includes links for users to purchase titles from publishers’ websites and from Amazon.com.au.

Participating author Rachael Johns told Books+Publishing that the website will be aimed at Australian readers as ‘most of our authors (excepting some of the digital-only published ones) are only published in Australia and New Zealand’. Johns added that the website will be limited to ‘mainstream published writers … purely for logistical purposes’. ‘However, we encourage other groups—such as self-published rural authors—to start up similar pages and we hope to provide links to these on our webpage as they are created,’ she said.

Website creator and author Jennie Jones said in the statement: ‘You might expect jealousy and conflict not unlike the plots and twists of the stories they write, but this group of authors (thirty-three women and one man) believe forming a group to support each other and assist with promo will be a win-win situation for readers and the writers alike.’

The website has been launched ahead of the Romance Writers of Australia conference, to be held in Sydney from 7 to 10 August. To see the website, click here.
