Barnes & Noble partners with Google for same-day delivery in three US cities

In the US, Barnes & Noble has partnered with Google Shopping Express for same-day delivery in three cities, reports Publishers Weekly. The announcement comes the day after Amazon announced it would expand its same-day delivery service to include 12 cities. Customers in Manhattan, West Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area can use the Google service to find and pay for Barnes & Noble items. Google will then dispatch local couriers to collect items from the bookstore to be delivered on the same day. After launching its services a year ago, Google Shopping Express has partnered with retailers such as Target, Costco, Toys R Us, Staples office supplies, Fry’s Electronics and Walgreens pharmacies. Barnes & Noble chief merchandising officer Jaime Carey said the service has the potential to attract new customers to the bookseller through ‘another access point’. Carey said the ‘speed to market’ is greater for the Google service because it is working with local stores rather than a central delivery centre.
