RWA Awards 2014 winners announced

The winners of the 2014 Romance Writers of Australia (RWA) Awards, known as the ‘Rubys’, were announced on 9 August at the RWA conference in Sydney.

The winners of the awards in each category were:

‘Short sexy’

What the Bride Didn’t Know (Kelly Hunter, Harlequin Kiss)

‘Short sweet’

One Life Changing Moment (Lucy Clark, Mills & Boon)  

‘Stories with romantic elements’

Lost in Kakadu (Kendall Talbot, Escape)

‘Long romance’

Her Favourite Rival (Sarah Mayberry, Harlequin).

Also announced at the awards were the Valerie Parv Award for an unpublished romance novel, which went to Karina Coldrick for Slippage; the Emerald Awards for unpublished manuscripts, which went to Audrey Ford for The Reluctant Princess (short) and Erin Moira O’Hara for The Kalista Diamond (long); and the ELLA Award for best published novella, which went to Sarah Mayberry for Worth the Risk (HMB Blush). 

Other awards included the Romance Media Award (ROMA) for intelligent and positive coverage of romance in the media, which went to Kat Mayo of Bookthingo for her piece on the Drum, ‘Dear columnists, romance fiction is not your bitch’; and the Lynne Wilding Meritorious Service Award, which went to Anita Joy.

The awards also honoured Emma Darcy, who was inducted into the RWA Hall of Fame for an outstanding lifetime achievement in romance writing.
