Six-year funding for organisations as part of new Australia Council grants model

The Australia Council has announced a new arts grants model.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the new model is the result of a review of the program, including consultation with the arts sector over the ‘past two to three years’.

The new model will consist of five programs:

  • Development grants for individuals and groups ($5000 to $25,000)
  • Arts project grants for individuals and groups ($10,000 to $50,000)
  • Arts project grants for organisations ($10,000 to $150,000)
  • Fellowships ($100,000)
  • Six-year funding for arts organisations.

In a statement, the Australia Council said the ‘broader categories focusing on development and projects mean only one application is required to fund a project through various stages of the creative process’.

‘The new model also ensures that individuals or groups of artists are not competing with arts organisations,’ it added.

The Australia Council said organisations and individuals ‘will also have the opportunity to apply for project funding for up to three years’.

Applications will continue to be peer-reviewed, with an available assessment pool of 600 people.

The Australia Council said it would be visiting all states and territories to ‘engage in dialogue with the sector so that any refinements can be made before applications open in January 2015’.
