‘The Big Issue’ announces 2014 fiction edition line-up

The Big Issue’s 10th annual fiction edition will be launched on 29 August at the Melbourne Writers Festival, and will feature 12 short stories written on the theme ‘Take Me Away’.

Contributors include published authors Katerina Cosgrove (The Glass Heart, Bone Ash Sky), A S Patric (The Rattler & Other Stories, Las Vegas for Vegans, Bruno Kramzer) and Fiona Wright (Knuckled). Also contributing are Brad Christmas, Vicky Daddo, Penny Gibson, Jacob S Harris, Jane Harper, Magdalena McGuire, Jenny Sinclair, David Wilson, and James Worner.

The stories were picked from over 400 submissions and judged with no names attached to prevent bias. On the judging panel were Big Issue editor Alan Attwood, associate editor Melissa Cranenburgh and books editor Thuy On.

The Big Issue’s fiction edition, like the magazine itself, has come a long way,’ said Attwood of the edition’s 10th anniversary. ‘It has helped to launch writers’ careers, confirmed the reputations of others and, importantly, become something special for all Big Issue vendors around Australia.’

A launch event will also be held at the Brisbane Writers Festival on 4 September.
