Fraser wins 2014 John Button Prize

Former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser has won the 2014 John Button Prize for writing on policy and politics for his book Dangerous Allies (MUP).

Fraser’s book was selected for the $20,000 prize ahead of three other shortlisted titles: Anzac’s Long Shadow (James Brown, Black Inc.), Battlers and Billionaires: The Story of Inequality in Australia (Andrew Leigh, Black Inc.) and End of the Road (Gideon Haigh, Penguin).

The prize was presented at the Melbourne Writers Festival on 23 August as part of the John Button Oration. The judges described Dangerous Allies as ‘an extremely well argued and researched book’ that offered an ‘independent perspective’ on Australia’s alliance with the United States.
