Colin Roderick Award shortlist announced

The shortlist for this year’s Colin Roderick Award has been announced.

The shortlisted titles are:

  • Eldershaw (Stephen Edgar, Black Pepper)
  • The Narrow Road to the Deep North (Richard Flanagan, Vintage)
  • The Railwayman’s Wife (Ashley Hay, A&U)
  • The Reef: A Passionate History (Iain McCalman, Viking)
  • The Night Guest (Fiona McFarlane, Hamish Hamilton)
  • Eyre: The Forgotten Explorer (Ivan Rudolph, HarperCollins)
  • The Flower between the Cracks (Helen Sage, Affirm Press)
  • Game (Trevor Shearston, A&U).

 

The winner of this year’s award will be announced on 14 October. The winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000 and the H T Priestley Medal.

The Colin Roderick Award is presented annually by the Foundation for Australian Literary Studies at James Cook University. The award recognises ‘the best book published in Australia which deals with any aspect of Australian life’, and is open to books published in the previous year in all fields, including fiction, nonfiction and poetry.
