New website to list Australian releases

A new website promises to list new book releases by Australian authors ‘and nothing more’.

The publishers of the website told Books+Publishing their identities are ‘purposely not being published as this website ideally exists separate to any individual, company or organisation’. However, titles listed on the site are linked to Boomerang Books. If a title is not available from Boomerang, it is instead linked to the publisher’s site.

‘One of the reasons for setting up the site was because we’d heard people say they’d buy more books by Australians if only they knew what was out,’ the publishers told Books+Publishing. ‘Even if the list encourages people to go to their local library to read a new Australian title, that would be great.’

‘We chose one retailer because part of the frustration, as readers, of going to a publisher’s website to find out about a book is that there’s no easy way to buy unless one already has a preferred bookseller. This website exists to encourage people to buy Australian books, so we wanted to make it easier to do so.’

‘Boomerang is owned by a great Australian independent bookseller and we wanted to help promote them. Booktopia is obviously the dominant Australian ebook retailer but it would be great if Boomerang could also become well known—two big local online retailers would hopefully lessen the reach of Amazon.’
