UK to be guest of honour at Mexico’s Guadalajara book fair

The UK will be the guest of honour at next year’s Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico, reports the Bookseller. A delegation of editors, writers and artists will represent British culture and literature at the fair, which runs from 28 November to 6 December 2015. The announcement follows an agreement between the UK and Mexican governments to designate 2015 as ‘The Year of Mexico in the UK’ and ‘The Year of the UK in Mexico’, as a major season of artistic exchange between the two countries. The London Book Fair announced in April that Mexico would be the Market Focus country for its 2015 fair. British Council director of literature Cortina Butler said: ‘The [Guadalajara] fair is a magnificent platform for us to share the best of UK literature with the people of Mexico as well as showcasing British music, performing and visual arts. I am delighted that British writers and artists will have this unique opportunity to engage with their counterparts in Mexico and reach new international audiences.’
