HarperCollins acquires 24-year-old author’s debut in three-book deal

HarperCollins has acquired a debut novel by Eliza Henry-Jones as part of a three-book deal.

In the Quiet, acquired via the Calidris Literary Agency, is ‘a heart-breaking, tender and life-affirming novel about grief, loss and families, which gradually unravels the life and secrets of Cate Carlton, who has recently died yet is able to linger on, watching her three young children and her husband as they come to terms with their life without her on their rural horse property’.

Twenty-four-year-old Henry-Hones has completed a Masters of Social Work and postgraduate qualifications in grief, loss and trauma counselling and works at a drug rehabilitation centre in Melbourne, using horses in therapy sessions. HarperCollins publisher Catherine Milne said she was ‘over the moon to be launching what is bound to be a brilliant career’.

HarperCollins has acquired world rights and will publish the novel in July 2015.
