Attendance dips at 2014 Frankfurt Book Fair

Attendance at the Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF) is down for the second year in a row, but only ‘modestly’, reports Publishers Weekly. FBF officials have reported that 140,291 trade visitors attended the 2014 fair, down less than 2% from 142,921 trade visitors in 2013. The total number of visitors was also down around 2.2%, from 275,342 total visitors in 2013 to 269,534 this year. Fair officials reported that the new Business Club attracted roughly 3000 visitors from more than 50 countries. ‘After an initial moment of panic [the publishing industry] is now demonstrating an astonishing level of mental agility, even in the face of digitisation,’ said fair director Juergen Boos. A round-up of the Australians’ experiences at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair will be published in next week’s Weekly Book Newsletter.
