Momentum partners with Tablo to find best novels in progress

Australian online publishing platform Tablo has announced a partnership with Pan Macmillan digital publishing imprint Momentum to discover ‘future bestselling authors while they’re still writing their books’.

Tablo, which provides an online platform for writers to publish their books progressively, will be presenting its five ‘most promising books’ to Momentum, which will consider the books for publication.

‘[Tablo founder] Ash Davies got in touch with us several months ago to see if we could find a way of working together,’ Momentum publisher Joel Naoum told Books+Publishing. ‘It’s great to see an Australian developer take on the difficult task of connecting digital audiences, writing communities and publishers, so we’ve been looking at various ways we might be able to team up on a project. We’re generally keeping a pretty close eye on various publishing communities online, but this is the first time we’ve worked up with a specific platform.’

Davies said Tablo will be looking at the number of readers, followers and the overall engagement books receive during November, before handing over the five most promising titles at the end of the month.

The partnership coincides with National Novel Writing Month, in which participants are challenged to complete a first draft of a 50,000 novel in the month of November.

Naoum said Tablo’s model was ‘a fantastic way for authors to get feedback and build an audience before a manuscript is completed’.
