‘Overland’ Victoria University Short Story Prize 2014 shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2014 Overland Victoria University Short Story Prize for New and Emerging Writers has been announced.

The shortlisted stories are:

  • ‘Harbinger’ (Stevi-Lee Alver)
  • ‘dermOid’ (Beth Cardier)
  • ‘Resistance’ (Christy Collins)
  • ‘Orbit’ (Laura Elvery)
  • ‘The Circle and the Equator’ (Kyra Giorgi)
  • ‘Dog Story’ (Madelaine Lucas)
  • ‘The Standardised Patient’ (Harriet McKnight)
  • ‘Helen Earth’ (Thomas Minogue)
  • ‘Source’ (Elisabeth Passmore)
  • ‘Manyuk’ (Mark Smith)
  • ‘A New Bruise’ (Laura Stortenbeker)
  • ‘An Island Life’ (James Worner)
  • ‘Late Change’ (Michelle Wright).

 

The winning stories for the $8000 prize will be announced next week with the publication of Overland’s final issue for the year.

This year’s prize is judged by Overland editor Jeff Sparrow, fiction editor Jennifer Mills, deputy editor Jacinda Woodhead and Victoria University academic and writer Jenny Lee.
