A&U acquires new novel from US-based Australian author

Allen & Unwin has acquired Australian and New Zealand (ANZ) and UK/Commonwealth rights to Australian author Dominic Smith’s new novel At the Edge of a Wood.

The US-based author’s previous novels include Bright and Distant Shores, which was published by A&U in 2011 and shortlisted for several Australian literary awards, and The Mercury Visions of Louis Daguerre and The Beautiful Miscellaneous, which were published in the US.

‘Set in 17th century Holland, 1950s Manhattan and Sydney in 2000, At the Edge of a Wood is a breathtakingly accomplished story of art, forgery and deception which is both intelligent and utterly compelling,’ said A&U trade publishing director Tom Gilliatt in a statement.

A&U has acquired ANZ rights from Gaby Naher at the Naher Agency and UK/Commonwealth rights from Devon Mazzone at Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Rights have also been sold in the Netherlands and Germany.

At the Edge of a Wood will be published by A&U and Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 2016.
