Lemony Snicket’s ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ to be adapted for Netflix

Lemony Snicket’s ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ (HarperCollins) will be adapted into a drama series by Paramount for distribution through online streaming service Netflix, reports the Bookseller. Paramount, which is yet to announce a director for the series, previously produced a film adaptation of the series starring Jim Carrey. Netflix vice-president of original content Cindy Holland said, ‘We are proud to start work on a series for a global audience that already loves the books. The world created by Lemony Snicket is unique, darkly funny, and relatable. We can’t wait to bring it to life for Netflix members.’ Daniel Handler, aka Lemony Snicket, said, ‘After years of providing top-quality entertainment on demand, Netflix is risking its reputation and its success by associating itself with my dismaying and upsetting books.’
