Author alleges plagiarism in Picador bio

Author Paul Gorman has alleged that Vivienne Westwood, a biography of the British fashion designer written by herself and Ian Kelly (Picador), plagiarises his book The Look: Adventures in Rock & Pop Fashion.

The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) reports that Gorman alleges ‘40 examples of plagiarism from one of his books, potential libels and many mistakes’ in the biography.

The book was published in October by Pan Macmillan imprint Picador in the UK and Australia.

SMH reports that Gorman’s lawyers have written to Pan Macmillan, Westwood and Kelly demanding an apology, ‘full credits for all passages’ and correction of the credits.

A spokesperson for Pan Macmillan said: ‘We always take very seriously any errors that are brought to our attention and will, where appropriate, correct them. The matter is now in the hands of our solicitors.’
