‘Fish-Hair Woman’ wins Philippine National Book Award

Merlinda Bobis’ Fish-Hair Woman (Spinifex Press) has won a Philippine National Book Award in the category of Best Novel in a Foreign Language (English).

Bobis is a Phillippines-born, Australia-based author and academic whose writing in Filipino and English integrates elements of the traditional culture of the Philippines with modern immigrant experiences.

Fish-Hair Woman previously won the 2013 Most Underrated Book Award and was a finalist in the 2013 Davitt Awards.

In 2013 Fish-Hair Woman was adapted to a full-length play in Filipino, which will be restaged in Manila in November. The book is currently being translated into Spanish and will be published by JC Sáez Editor in 2015.
