Mystery awards announced at Bouchercon

Three prizes for mystery books—the Barry Awards, Anthony Awards and Macavity Awards—were presented at the Bouchercon 2014 World Mystery Convention: Murder at the Beach, held at Long Beach California from 13 to 16 November. William Kent Krueger’s Ordinary Grace (S&S) won Best Novel in all three awards. Barry Award-winners in other categories were: Best First Mystery Novel: Japantown (Barry Lancet, S&S); Best Paperback Original:  I Hear the Sirens in the Street (Adrian McKinty, Serpent’s Tail); and Best Thriller: The Doll (Taylor Stevens, Arrow). Anthony Award-winners in other category included: Best First novel: Yesterday’s Echo (Matt Coyle, Oceanview Publishing); Best Paperback Original: A Deadly Measure of Brimstone (Catriona McPherson, Hodder); Best Critical or Nonfiction Work: The Hour of Peril (Daniel Stashower, Thorndike Press); and Best Audiobook: Cuckoo’s Calling (Robert Galbraith, Little, Brown). Winners of the Macavity Awards among various category included: Best First Mystery Award: A Killing at Cotton Hill (Terry Shames, Prometheus Books); Best Nonfiction Award: The Hour of Peril (Daniel Stashower, Minotaur Books); and the Sue Feder Historical Mystery Award: Murder as a Fine Art (David Morrell, Little, Brown).
