UK protest group launches Amazon boycott

In the UK, protest group Amazon Anonymous has launched a campaign urging consumers not to shop at Amazon this Christmas, reports the Bookseller. The group is asking shoppers to sign up to its Amazon Free Challenge, which involves boycotting Amazon from 1-25 December, and offers to provide ‘support to help you shop somewhere better’. ‘Christmas is Amazon’s busiest time of year—and it’s also our best chance to disrupt their business. They don’t pay their workers a Living Wage. They dodge their tax. They take money away from our local shops. So this year, let’s take our money away from them,’ the group said on its website. Amazon Anonymous has so far raised £7000 (A$12,550) for the campaign, which it hopes to ‘step up’ in the lead-up to Christmas. In a letter to supporters the group said it wants to ‘create some resources to expose Amazon’s abuses in a public way’. For more information about the campaign visit the website here.
