Costa Book Awards 2014 shortlists announced

In the UK, the shortlists for the 2014 Costa Book Awards have been announced. The books shortlisted in the novel category are: The Lives of Others (Neel Mukherjee, Chatto & Windus), House of Ashes (Monique Roffey, S&S), How to Be Both (Ali Smith, Hamish Hamilton) and Nora Webster (Colm Toibin, Picador). Shortlisted titles were also announced in the first novel, biography, poetry and children’s categories, and can be viewed on the awards website here. The category winners will be announced on 5 January and will each receive £5000 (A$8969). The winner of the £30,000 (A$53,814) Costa Book of the Year will be announced on 27 January. The 2013 Costa Book of the Year was awarded to The Shock of the Fall (Nathan Filer, HarperCollins).
