RiP P D James

British crime fiction author P D James has died, aged 94.

James was best known for her series of detective novels starring policeman and poet Adam Dalgliesh. She wrote 14 Dalgliesh books in total, as well as other fiction and nonfiction titles, including The Children of Men and Death Comes to Pemberley (both Faber). She was made a life peer in 1991 and served as president of the UK’s Society of Authors from 1997 to 2013.

A spokesperson for her publisher Faber said: ‘It is difficult to express our profound sadness at losing P D James, one of the world’s great writers and a Faber author since her first publication in 1962 … Working with her was always the best of times, full of joy. We will miss her hugely.’
