Shortlist for the 2015 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature announced

The shortlist for the US $50,000 (A$59,000) 2015 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature has been announced. The shortlisted titles are: The Lowland (Jhumpa Lahiri, Bloomsbury), The Mirror of Beauty (Shamsur Rahman Faruqi, Penguin Books India), The Scatter Here is Too Great (Bilal Tanweer, Jonathan Cape), A God in Every Stone (Kamila Shamsie, Bloomsbury), and Noontide Toll (Romesh Gunesekera, Granta). The judges said that ‘the landscape in all the novels was quintessentially South Asian’ and that ‘most of the novels grappled with the socio-political realities on the ground’. ‘All of them did so in ways that were moving, challenging, and thought-provoking,’ they said. The winner of the award will be announced on 22 January at the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival.
