PM’s Literary Awards to be broadcast on Sky News and SBS, reports ‘Australian’

The 2014 PM’s Literary Awards will be broadcast by Sky News and SBS, according to a report in the Australian.

The Australian reports that the ceremony, which will be hosted by Ray Martin in Melbourne on 8 December, will ‘air live on [Sky News channel] A-PAC and SBS’s arts channel on Foxtel, Studio, at 7.15pm with a highlights package on SBS One at 10.15pm’.

The Australian previously reported that the ABC declined a request from the government to broadcast the awards, which were pitched as ‘similar to the BBC’s broadcast of the Man Booker Prize’, including a ‘three-panel production along with broadcast of the awards’. According to the newspaper, ‘one of the contentious issues’ is ‘believed to be the suggestion of Jennifer Byrne as host’.

A spokesperson for the Arts Minister was unable to confirm the Australian’s report.
