Ruffino appointed MD of S&S

Dan Ruffino has been appointed managing director of Simon & Schuster Australia, replacing Lou Johnson, who announced her resignation in September.

Ruffino has worked in the publishing industry in Australia and the US for over 25 years, most recently as creative director of Get Reading!. He was also global digital director at Penguin US in New York, marketing and publicity director at Penguin Australia, and consumer marketing manager at Pan Macmillan Australia.

Ian Chapman, chief executive and publisher of Simon & Schuster UK and International, said in a statement that Ruffino’s ‘many accomplishments and wealth of experience in both traditional and digital publishing will help build on the well-established strengths of Simon & Schuster Australia’. ‘He is admired and respected throughout the Australian industry and in the UK and the US, and his expertise and drive will be pivotal to the company’s ambitions for even greater success in this key market.’

Ruffino said he was ‘passionate about connecting writers with readers’ and was looking forward to ‘working closely with my colleagues internationally and with local booksellers, authors and agents to continue to accelerate the growth of the business in Australia’.

Ruffino will begin on 5 January. Johnson’s last day in the office will be 18 December.
