Costa Book Award 2014 category winners announced

In the UK, the Costa Book Award 2014 category winners have been announced. The winners for each award are: How to be Both (Ali Smith, Hamish Hamilton) in the novel category; Elizabeth is Missing (Emma Healey, Viking) in the first novel award; My Family and Other Superheroes (Jonathan Edwards, Seren Books) in the poetry category; Five Children on the Western Front (Kate Saunders, Faber) in the children’s category; and H is for Hawk (Helen Macdonald, Vintage) in the biography category. The category winners will each receive £5000 (A$9400). The five winning authors are eligible to win the Costa Book of the Year Award worth £30,000 (A$56,200), announced on 27 January.
