European booksellers asked to join #mynextread campaign

The European International Booksellers Federation (EIBF) is encouraging booksellers and readers to share their reading choices on social media along with the #mynextread hashtag, reports the Bookseller. The campaign’s message is ‘Read what you want, when you want, in whatever format you want,’ said an EIBF spokesperson. ‘The goal is to promote access, choice and sustainability within the book trade. The EIBF created the campaign to raise awareness of its Book Charter, which argues for: consumer choice; a competitive retail environment; the ability to borrow print books, ebooks and audiobooks; a reduced VAT rate on print and digital books; and the ability to switch between ereader devices easily; and against closed eco-systems employed by various ereader devices. The organisation hopes consumer support of the #mynextread campaign will show the European Union that consumers support the Book Charter.
