ALA Awards 2015: Printz, Newbery, Caldecott, Stonewall

The American Library Association (ALA) has announced its awards for children’s and young adult literature, including the Printz, Newbery, Caldecott and Stonewall. The Michael L Printz Award for excellence in young adult literature was awarded to I’ll Give You the Sun (Jandy Nelson, Walker Books). The John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature was awarded to The Crossover (Kwame Alexander, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). The Randolph Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book went to The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend (Dan Santat, Little, Brown). The Coretta Scott King awards, which recognise African American authors and illustrators, were awarded to Brown Girl Dreaming (Jacqueline Woodson, Penguin US) in the author category and Firebird (Christopher Myers, Penguin US) in the illustrator category. The Stonewall Book Award, presented to children’s and young adult books relating to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender experience, was awarded to This Day in June (Gayle E Pitman, illus by Kristyna Litten, Magination Press).
