Inaugural Historical Novel Society conference to be held in March

The inaugural Historical Novel Society of Australasia (HNSA) conference will be held in Sydney from 20-22 March.

The conference opens with a reception and a debate on the relationship between historical novelists and historians, to be held at the State Library of NSW on the evening of 20 March. On the 21 and 22 March, a number of panels will be held at the Balmain Town Hall on subjects including the ANZAC tradition, weaving imagination into history, and historical fiction subgenres.

A series of supersessions aimed at emerging authors will also run as part of the conference, while an academic panel will host a discussion on ‘Phryne Fisher and Other Fantasies: The Female Detective In History’.

Speakers at the conference include authors, academics, publishers and other industry figures.

The HNSA was established in 2014 to promote the writing, reading and publication of historical fiction in Australia and New Zealand. To view the full conference program, click here.
