Australia Post increases prepaid parcel prices

Australia Post will increase the price for some parcel deliveries and prepaid parcels from 2 March, among wider changes to pricing for its services.

Parcels over 500g and up to 22kg will be charged $10.05 for same-state delivery and $12.85 for interstate delivery, plus an additional distance charge of up to $7 per kilo or part thereof. Currently, Australia Post charges $9.75 for same-state delivery and $12.45 for interstate delivery, plus a distance charge of up to $5.80 per kilo or part thereof.

Small parcels up to 500g will cost $7.45, up from $7.20. Changes have also been made to charges for Express Post parcels and business letters.

Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) CEO Joel Becker said the ABA and Australia Post’s pricing contract for members won’t be affected by the price increase. Similarly, Bookworld marketing manager Kim Noble and Booktopia CEO Tony Nash each said their respective company’s contracts with Australia Post would not be affected by the price rises.

Australia Post has reported a 34.5% drop in profit in the 2013-14 financial year, led by its letters division, which lost $328.4 million across the financial year.
