Wattpad releases romance and erotica app After Dark

Online writing platform Wattpad has released the After Dark app, which offers readers a curated selection of romance and erotica stories, reports Publishers Weekly. The app features thousands of erotic stories uploaded to Wattpad under categories inlcuding bestselling romance, fan fiction, urban, LGBTQ, ‘panty droppers’, chicklit and romantic suspense. Readers can create personal libraries, share stories and comment on titles. Wattpad head of global marketing Melissa Shapiro said with the release of the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey (Ebury) ‘interest in mature stories has spiked’. Shapiro said the After Dark app is intended to take advantage of what seems to be an insatiable demand for erotic fiction of all kinds and the app gives adult readers access to ‘all the steamiest stories from Wattpad’. More than 40 million people use Wattpad each month, and the romance genre is one of its most popular categories, with more than 23 million stories shared by its users. More information on After Dark is available here.
