Leading Edge announces 2015 conference guest speakers, draft program

The 2015 Leading Edge Books Conference, to be held at the Rydges on Swanston in Melbourne from 15-16 May, will feature a keynote address by Brian Walker, CEO and founder of The Retail Doctor Group, who will present on global and domestic retail trends with a focus on independent book retailers.

Registrations are now open for the event, which includes a pre-conference cocktail party hosted by Black Inc. on 14 May, as well as a joint trade exhibition with the Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) on Sunday 17 May. As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the ABA will hold its 2015 conference at the State Library of Victoria (SLV) from 17-18 May.  

A draft program for this year’s conference includes confirmed guest authors Shirley Barrett, George Megalogenis, Tom Keneally, Gail Jones, Leisel Jones, Jane Caro, Richard Glover, Peter Garrett and Steve Toltz.  

The conference will also include presentations on the future of publishing and book marketing, building brand identity, indie books, literary imprints and diversity in children’s publishing, and a panel of booksellers-turned-authors called ‘Crossing the Counter’. The Leading Edge awards dinner will be held on Saturday 16 May at the SLV.
