HarperCollins US selling ‘Insurgent’ tie-in via Twitter

In the US, HarperCollins is working with Twitter to offer users a hardcover, film tie-in edition of Insurgent (Veronica Roth) direct from the publisher at a 35% discount, reports Publishers Weekly. The offer, which will last through 23 March, is made available via Twitter Commerce, a ‘native commerce’ offering from the social media platform that gives firms the ability to embed ‘buy buttons’ in their tweets. Twitter users can then click once to buy without leaving the social media site. The offer is tied to the promotion of the film adaptation of Insurgent and is only available to purchase in the US. HarperCollins chief digital officer Chantal Restivo-Alessi said: ‘We strive to make our authors’ work available to consumers in as many ways as possible. Promotions such as this not only benefit our authors, but also our existing retail partners, who are able to take advantage of a sales halo effect that we have observed with other similar e-commerce initiatives.’ As reported by Books+Publishing, HarperCollins previously launched a program with cloud reader Aerbook, which gave Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest users the ability to purchase ebooks.
