Amazon, HarperCollins terms negotiation stalls

In the US, negotiations on new terms between Amazon and HarperCollins have stalled, reports Business Insider UK. The contract presented to HarperCollins was the same contract signed by Hachette in November 2014 after a public long-running battle with Amazon. An anonymous source told the publication, in which Jeff Bezos is an investor through his personal investment company Bezos Expeditions, that no print or digital HarperCollins books will be available on Amazon after the existing contract runs out if no agreement is made. An Amazon spokesperson said: ‘I can’t comment on that rumour. I can say that we have offered Harper the same terms for a contract that Simon & Schuster, Hachette and Macmillan have all recently agreed to.’ In the terms negotiation with Hachette, Amazon had removed pre-order buttons from some Hachette titles and delayed shipping. New York Times reported that the final terms agreement had given Hachette ‘control over most of its pricing but offered incentives to sell at lower prices,’ while Amazon was given ‘increased co-op funds, the payments for placement on the retailer’s website.’
