Cutter wins inaugural James Herbert Award for Horror Writing

In the UK, The Troop by Nick Cutter (Headline)—the pen name of Canadian author Craig Davidson—has won the inaugural James Herbert Award for Horror Writing, reports the Guardian. Pan Macmillan and the estate of James Herbert launched the £2000 (A$3880) award in 2014 in honour of the late horror writer. The Troop, which was chosen from a shortlist of six, follows a group of boy scouts camping on an island in the Canadian wilderness. Kerry Herbert, James’s daughter and one of our judges, said of the novel: ‘Human evil meets an insatiable force of nature to wreak havoc on kids, a scout troop, no less? My father would have chuckled in his chair.’ For more information about the award, visit the website here.
