Oyster launches ebook store

In the US, ebook subscription service Oyster has launched an ebook retail store with over one million titles, reports Publishers Weekly. Ebooks can be purchased by subscribers and non-subscribers via the Oyster website and app, and are available from all of the big five publishers, although only Simon & Schuster, Macmillan and HarperCollins include their titles in the subscription service. Oyster CEO Eric Stromberg said the ebook store will be ‘competitively priced’, with ‘some discounting on a publisher-by-publisher basis’. Oyster is currently only available in North America, but Stromberg said that ‘expanding internationally is definitely a focus for us in 2015’.
