Faber and Perseus enter partnership
UK publisher Faber has entered a partnership with US publishing company Perseus Books Group, and will use Perseus’ digital technology to publish its books globally, reports Publishers Weekly. Perseus’ client services business, Publishers Group West, will also represent Faber’s titles in the US after Faber ended its 17-year affiliation with US-based Farrar, Straus and Giroux in February. The partnership also offers other UK independent publishers with a model for global publishing through Faber and Perseus’ existing digital joint venture, Faber Factory Powered by Constellation. Faber chief executive Stephen Page said in a statement: ‘The USA is the largest English language market and, while complex, it certainly offers opportunities to the UK’s excellent independent publishers. What we are building is a marketing and selling model for publishers with no editorial resource in the USA. It’s a substantial opportunity and a response to global alignments for independents.’ Perseus’ CEO David Steinberger said he was ‘gratified to be building on the success our joint venture to bring Faber’s extraordinary books to the United States and to offer this new global model to UK publishers’. Faber will hire marketing and publicity teams in the US, and plans to publish 60 new titles per year in the US, as well as a backlist of more than 1000 titles.
