Nielsen to track festival book sales

In the UK, Nielsen is developing a ‘festival sales measurement’ to record book sales from the Hay and Edinburgh literary festivals in its bestseller charts, reports the Bookseller. According to the Bookseller, Nielsen has been working with the two literary festivals to develop a festival sales channel and is currently in the testing phase. Nick Barley, director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, said: ‘We would be delighted if our sales were included in the UK figures, as would publishers and authors, whether debut novelists or international bestsellers. We look forward to the results of their research with interest.’ Gareth Howell-Jones, bookshop manager at Hay Festival, said his shop ‘can sell 500 copies at an event, which is worth recording’.
