‘The Bookseller’ announces 2015 ‘rising stars’ list

UK book trade publication the Bookseller has announced its fifth annual list of ‘up-and-comers and leaders of the future in the book trade’. The list features 39 people working in the UK publishing industry, including Weidenfeld & Nicolson Fiction’s Sophie Buchan, who ‘combines top-notch commissioning with social media outreach’; Scribe UK’s Sarah Braybrooke, who ‘deals with all the day-to-day tasks that come with working for a new imprint, plus she is launching a metadata project with a colleague and starting a scheme to help indie publishers to communicate better’; and Kyle Books’ Anna Cunnane, who ‘has taken a huge step up as the illustrated publisher’s export sales manager, runs a little thing called the Society of Young Publishers on the side and will soon be learning to code’. A special ‘shooting star’ award was also presented to Capel & Land rights manager and agent Valeria Huerta, who has been in UK publishing for just two and a half years and has made ‘dramatic contributions’ to the finances of previous employers Faber and Hodder/Headline. ‘The Rising Stars are, as they say in Hollywood, double or even triple threats’, who ‘excel at their main jobs’ but also ‘strive to constantly improve their skill sets and embark on ambitious projects, often on their own’, writes the Bookseller.
