NGV to host children’s book illustrations exhibition

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) will host an exhibition of more than 80 large-scale works by Australian book illustrators at the Ian Potter Centre at Federation Square in Melbourne.

The exhibition ‘Bunyips and Dragons: Australian Children’s Book Illustrations’, which runs from 25 July to 4 October, features works from more than 60 illustrators, including Graeme Base, Shaun Tan, Ron Brooks, Sally Rippin and Leigh Hobbs. The works were donated to the NGV by The Little Bookroom founder Albert Ullin.

The exhibition will also include video interviews with authors, illustrators and Ullin; a film that shows some of the featured illustrators at work; drawing and reading activities; and an in-conversation event with Graeme Base, Albert Ullin and exhibition curator Petra Kayser.

NGV director Tony Ellwood said: ‘Through Albert Ullin’s tremendous gift of this significant collection of illustrations, the NGV is able to present an insightful survey of Australian children’s picture books and literature.’
