Disney combines publishing and interactive media divisions

In the US, the Walt Disney Company will combine the division that includes its publishing arm with its interactive media division, reports Digital Book World. Disney Consumer Products, which houses Disney Publishing Worldwide, will combine with Disney Interactive to create Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media (DCPI). In a press release, Disney framed the move as a response to ‘changing consumer preferences in a marketplace increasingly influenced by technology’, which will see the previously separate divisions share ‘technological expertise’ as they work towards ‘similar objectives’. ‘In addition, the change will more effectively leverage Disney’s extensive licensing structure and retail relationships across both segments,’ said the company.
