‘Drones and Phantoms’ wins ALS Gold Medal

Jennifer Maiden’s poetry collection Drones and Phantoms (Giramondo) has won the 2015 Australian Literature Society (ALS) Gold Medal. 

Maiden’s book was chosen from a shortlist of five titles.

Announced at the Association for the Study of Australian Literature (ASAL) conference, the award is presented annually for ‘a work of outstanding literary merit’ published in the previous calendar year. Last year’s winner was Alexis Wright’s The Swan Book (Giramondo)

Also announced at the conference was the biennial Walter McRae Russell Award for critical writing, which was jointly presented to Robert Dixon’s Alex Miller: the Ruin of Time (Sydney University Press) and Michelle Grossman’s Entangled Subjects: Indigenous/Australian Cross-Cultures of Talk, Text, and Modernity (Rodopi).
