The Wheeler Centre launches children’s illustration prize

The Wheeler Centre in Melbourne has launched the inaugural Ullin Prize for children’s illustration.

The prize, named after the founder of The Little Bookroom Albert Ullin, will be presented annually at the Children’s Books Festival in Melbourne, which is held in partnership between the State Library of Victoria and the Wheeler Centre.

Director of the Wheeler Centre Michael Williams told Books+Pubishing that the prize would ‘complement the great work’ already being done by existing children’s prizes, noting that there was a gap in the children’s literary prize landscape for illustrators.

The prize was announced at an event held at the Wheeler Centre on 16 July to celebrate Ullin’s contribution to children’s literature in Australia.

Full details of the Ullin Prize will be announced in late September, with submissions to open in October to coincide with the 55th birthday of The Little Bookroom.
