Amazon UK releases ebook bestseller charts over past five years

Amazon UK has announced its top-selling Kindle books over the past five years to mark five years since the Kindle store opened in the UK, reports the Guardian. E L James’ Fifty Shades of Grey (Arrow), released in April 2012, topped the list, with the sequels Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed coming in second and fourth place, respectively. Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl (Hachette) was third, The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared (Jonas Jonasson, A&U) was fifth and The Life Of Pi by Yann Martel (Canongate) was sixth, with Amazon noting that film adaptations tended to dictate high sales. Amazon also revealed its bestselling Kindle independent authors, with thriller author Rachel Abbott ranked first with over a million ebook sales globally; and top-selling independent titles, with Abbott’s Only the Innocent and Sleep Tight taking the top two spots.
