Ned Kelly 2015 shortlists announced

The Australian Crime Writers Association (ACWA) has announced the shortlists for this year’s Ned Kelly Awards for crime writing.

The shortlisted works in each category are:

Best novel

  • Sweet One (Peter Docker, Fremantle Press)
  • Eden (Candice Fox, Bantam)
  • A Murder Unmentioned (Sulari Gentill, Pantera)
  • Crucifixion Creek (Barry Maitland, Text)
  • Gun Street Girl (Adrian McKinty, Serpent’s Tail)
  • Present Darkness (Malla Nunn, Xoum)

 

Best first novel

  • King of the Road (Nigel Bartlett, Vintage)
  • What Came Before (Anna George, Viking)
  • Chasing the Ace (Nicholas J Johnson, S&S)
  • Quota (Jock Serong, Text)

 

Best true crime

  • The Fall (Amy Dale, Ebury)
  • This House of Grief: The Story of a Murder Trial (Helen Garner, Text)
  • The Family Court Murders (Debi Marshall, Ebury)
  • He Who Must Be Obeid (Kate McClymont and Linton Besser, Vintage)
  • The Murder of Allison Baden-Clay (David Murray, Ebury)
  • The Feel-Good Hit of the Year (Liam Pieper, Hamish Hamilton)

 

S D Harvey Short Story Award

  • ‘A Watched Pot’ (Aoife Clifford)
  • ‘Short Term People’ (Andrea Gillum)
  • ‘Prisoner’s Dilemma’ (Stephen Gray)
  • ‘Sweetie’ (Grace Heyer)
  • ‘Daddy Played the Trumpet’ (Adriane Howell)
  • ‘Roux’s Sister’ (Darcy-Lee Tindale)

 

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Kill Your Darlings will publish the winner of the S D Harvey Short Story Award in its spring issue to mark the 20-year anniversary of ACWA.
